Debrecen Entrance Exam: Pass Mark and Results

In short.

• Debrecen publishes no pass mark. Your scores stay internal.
• You get one of four outcomes, not a score.
• One outcome is the Basic Medicine Course. It is a paid course, not a place in first year.
• So the best you can do is be ready on every biology topic.
• Apply early: medicine closed early in 2026.

Is there a pass mark?

No published one. Debrecen says the scores are for internal use only. It does not tell applicants their scores. It looks at your overall exam performance.

Many people apply. Debrecen closed medicine early for September 2026. It said it had an exceptionally high number of applications.

The four outcomes

After the written test and the oral exam, you get one of four outcomes:

1. First year of medicine.
2. The Basic Medicine Course, a paid preparatory course.
3. A different programme, if the committee offers one.
4. Rejected.

You get the outcome, not a score.

The Basic Medicine Course

The Basic Medicine Course is a preparatory course. It is not a place in the first year of medicine.

It cost USD 7,500 for 2026/27.

Before you accept an offer, ask Debrecen in writing:

• How do course students move into first year of medicine?
• Is there an exam at the end of the course?
• What happens if a student does not pass it?
• When must I accept or decline the offer?

What applicants say

Applicants on Reddit see the course in two ways:

• A worry: in 2025, one applicant called it no guarantee of a place in medicine.
• Common offer: the same applicant said most people in their room got the offer.
• Short time to decide: the same applicant reported about 14 days to accept.
• A defence: in 2026, former course students said you really learn a lot in it.

These are single reports, not official figures. Your sitting may differ.

Do you need an English certificate?

The exam is in English. For certificate rules, check Debrecen's application page before you apply.

Have a degree? Ask about an exemption

Holders of a bachelor's or master's degree may get a full or partial exemption from the exam. Debrecen decides this from your documents. The interview is still mandatory.

How to be ready

You cannot see your score. So the one thing you control is how ready you are.

Biology is required. It has 16 official topics:

• Topics 1 to 8: cells and genes, from the cell to translation.
• Topics 9 to 16: the human body. That is breathing, circulation, digestion, excretion, nerves, hormones, muscle and movement, and immunity.

So half of the biology list is the human body. Learn each system in depth.

Then you choose chemistry or physics. Each has its own official topic list. Our practice will cover chemistry only.

Expect more than multiple choice. In the official samples, each part opens with 10 multiple-choice questions. Short written tasks for points follow. In 2026, each section of the real exam took 45 minutes.

Study at university level. Most applicants in 2025 and 2026 said the real biology paper was much harder than the sample. Debrecen recommends US university textbooks.

Apply early

For September 2026, Debrecen stopped taking medicine applications early. The final deadline for September 2027 is 15 May 2027. Do not wait for May. Apply as soon as the window opens.
