Debrecen Medicine 2027: Deadline, Fees, Requirements

In short. For September 2027 entry, the deadline for Medicine at the University of Debrecen is 15 May 2027. Places can fill before that: in 2026, Medicine closed early. You need a B2 English certificate unless you are exempt, and at least 12 years of schooling. Your study gap may be 6 years at most, or less for citizens of six countries. Applying costs USD 150, plus USD 350 for the exam.

These rules were checked on the university's pages in October 2026, including its regulation in force from 24 September 2026. Check them on the application page before you apply.

When is the Debrecen Medicine deadline for 2027?

For September 2027 entry, apply by 15 May 2027. That is the date on the university's application page.

Do not wait for May. The university's rules say it takes and assesses applications as they come in. So a programme can be full before the deadline. The university can also move the deadline when it reaches capacity.

That happened in 2026. By 8 May 2026, the application page said Medicine was no longer taking applications for September 2026. The reason given was an exceptionally high number of applications. 8 May is a week earlier in the year than the 2027 deadline.

Why do some pages say 15 June?

You will meet two dates. Here is why:

Plan around 15 May 2027. It is the date set for 2027, and it is the earlier one.

The application page also lists 1 November 2026. That date is for January or February 2027 entry. For a first-year Medicine place in September 2027, the date is 15 May 2027.

When are the Debrecen exam dates?

Not on the faculty pages we checked. The university's entrance exam page shows exam dates for medical programmes in a calendar. We could not read its 2027 entries. The page notes that those calendar dates are not for scholarship applicants.

Your own date is set by email with you, or with your representative, says the university's FAQ.

What are the entry requirements for international students?

Here are the rules for Medicine in English, as a checklist:

Requirement	The rule
Age	At least 18 by 31 August of the year your application is for. Younger applicants can ask for an exception in writing
Schooling	At least 12 years of primary and secondary school, and a high school diploma or equivalent
Study gap	At most 6 years since your last studies, for medical programmes. Stricter for six countries (see below)
English	A B2 certificate from a supervised test, unless you are exempt
Entrance exam	A written test and an oral exam. A degree may exempt you from part or all of it
Health papers	A medical certificate, a health questionnaire and a vaccination booklet, by registration at the latest

On age: the rule says "the year subjected by the application". For September 2027 entry, we read that as 31 August 2027. If your 18th birthday is close to that date, ask the university.

The study gap: 6 years, or stricter for six countries

The study gap is the time since your last studies. For medical programmes, it may be at most 6 years.

Citizens of Bangladesh, Pakistan, Syria, Afghanistan, Burma and Yemen have stricter limits, for all subjects:

• Foundation and undergraduate programmes: at most 2 years.
• Graduate programmes: at most 4 years.

The page does not say which of these applies to Medicine. If you are a citizen of one of these countries, ask the university in writing before you apply.

English: the B2 certificate

You must prove your English with a standardised certificate at B2 (upper-intermediate) level or higher. It must come from a supervised (proctored) exam.

You are exempt if:

• English is your first language, or
• you finished secondary school or higher education in English. Then you send a medium of instruction certificate: a letter from your school or university saying you were taught in English.

Some other educational certificates may also bring an exemption. The university says the details are on its website.

The university's Medicine page still says only that English is assessed at the exam. The application page and the regulation ask for the certificate. If you are unsure, ask the university.

English also counts inside the exam. Your English is marked at the oral, for up to 100 of the 300 points.

One exam for each year of entry

You may sit the entrance exam once for each year of entry. If your overall result reaches a minimum the university sets, it may allow one more try, for USD 350.

Have a degree?

With a bachelor's or master's degree, you may get a full or partial exemption from the exam. The university decides from your documents. The interview is still required. More in Debrecen pass mark and results.

What does it cost to apply?

All of these are paid to the university, in US dollars:

So applying and sitting the exam once costs USD 500. You can move your exam once for free, if you ask before the exam instructions are sent.

Sitting the exam abroad? Then you pay the exam fee to the local representative who hosts it. Ask them about the venue, the start time and the fees.

Tuition, for students admitted in 2026/27:

• Medicine: USD 16,900 a year.
• Basic Medicine Course, if you are offered it: USD 7,500.
• Health insurance, a medical checkup and a student card are included.

The fees for 2027/28 entrants were not on the fees page when we checked in October 2026.

Where and how you sit the exam

• Where: in Debrecen, at an exam centre abroad, or online. The FAQ says online exams usually run on Zoom or Skype.
• What: a written test in English. Biology is required, plus chemistry or physics. Expect multiple choice, definitions and calculations.
• How long: each written test takes 45 minutes, says the exam page. The FAQ says 50 minutes per subject.
• The oral: an oral exam in biology and your second subject follows. It also marks your English.
• The result: the FAQ says the decision comes right after the oral. Another answer in the same FAQ says within 1 to 2 days of the exam.

Before you apply: a checklist

1. Check your study gap. Count the years since your last studies. If you are a citizen of one of the six named countries, ask the university which limit applies.
2. Sort out your English. Book a supervised B2 test early, or ask your school for a medium of instruction certificate.
3. Have your diploma ready, with at least 12 years of schooling.
4. Apply early, well before 15 May 2027, on the application page.
5. Budget USD 500 to apply and sit the exam once.
