Semmelweis Dates for 2027 Entry
In short.
- Apply by 31 May 2027. The date applications open is not announced yet.
- Exams run once or twice a week until the end of June. One official page says from early February, the other from early March.
- You book an exam date on SEMAPHOR after you apply.
- The USD 400 fee covers up to two sittings. The second must be at least a week after the first.
- You hear within 2 weeks of your exam. Then you have 2 weeks to reply.
These dates were checked on the university's pages in October 2026. The deadline and the exam window are for 2027 entry. Rules marked "2026/27 rules" come from the university's current admission rules: the 2027/28 edition is not out yet.
When is the Semmelweis deadline for 2027?
Apply by 31 May 2027. That is the date on the university's Medicine page. The deadline was also 31 May in 2025 and 2026.
You apply on SEMAPHOR, the university's online application portal. The fee to apply is USD 400.
When do applications open?
Not announced yet. The Medicine page says the date will be "announced soon".
Here is what happened in the last two years:
| Year | Applications opened | Deadline |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 | 12 January 2026 | 31 May 2026 |
| 2025 | 3 February 2025 | 31 May 2025 |
The opening date moved by about three weeks between those years. So we do not guess a 2027 date. Check the Medicine page for it.

When are the Semmelweis entrance exams?
The written exams run once or twice a week, until the end of June. The university's two pages differ on when they start:
| University page | When the exams run |
|---|---|
| Entrance exam page | Once or twice a week, from early February until the end of June |
| Medicine page | Once or twice a week, from early March until the end of June |
We do not pick one. Both pages say the exams end in June. The exact dates appear only in SEMAPHOR, after you apply. The 2026/27 rules add that exam dates are updated and expanded according to demand and capacity.
In 2025, an applicant on Reddit described new dates being added about a week apart, through June.
How do you book an exam date?
- Apply on SEMAPHOR and pay the USD 400 fee.
- Pick a date in SEMAPHOR. The dates show there once you have submitted your application.
- Sit the written tests online, from home. You use Safe Exam Browser, and Zoom watches you.
- Go to the interview with an oral exam. It is in person by default, or online on Zoom. The university tells you in good time which one you get.
Book soon after you apply. In April 2026, an applicant on Reddit paid the fee and found every online date taken. A few days later, they wrote that only on-site exams were left. The university's pages describe the written tests as online, from home. If SEMAPHOR offers you an on-site date, ask the university what it involves.
Our tip: book early, but pick a date when you will be ready. One 2026 applicant put it simply: a later slot with better preparation beats an early one you are not ready for.
A second sitting: the one-week rule
The 2026/27 rules allow at most two entrance exams in one calendar year. The USD 400 fee covers both.
The second sitting must be at least one week after the first. So if your first exam is in the last week of the exam period, you cannot sit a second time.
What this means for you: sit your first exam before the last week of the exam period. That keeps a second try open, if you need one.
Prepare to pass at your first sitting, though. Use the second only if you need it.
When do you hear, and what comes next?
- Your decision: within 2 weeks of your exam, says the Medicine page. The 2026/27 rules say the decision letter comes within a week of the oral, usually in a couple of days.
- Your reply: you have 2 weeks to reply to an offer.
- The deposit: USD 2,000, within 14 days of an offer. It is not refunded, and it counts toward your first-semester tuition.
- Your school certificate: if you apply in your final year of school, upload your certificate to SEMAPHOR by 21 August of the year you apply.
